Located on a 2.22-acre portion of the city hall site, Salida del Sol features a substantial residential building covering 45,593 square feet with a total of 50 housing units. Of these, 40 units are specifically designated for formerly unhoused individuals and veterans who earn up to 30% of the area median income (AMI). The remaining nine units are available for households with incomes up to 50% of the AMI.

A notable aspect of this development is that within the units designated for individuals who have experienced homelessness, 24 units are reserved for those with a mental health diagnosis. These residents will be assisted by participating agencies to ensure they receive the necessary support.

For those residing in Salida del Sol with project-based vouchers or Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) vouchers, rent is structured to be affordable, based on 30% of their income. Rent will range from $887 to $1,479 per month, depending on the size of their unit.

The new city hall, which replaced a temporary structure that had been in place for 50 years, is strategically situated in front of a residential courtyard and community garden. This thoughtful layout aims to foster a sense of community and normalize support services within the civic context of the city.

The project is a collaborative effort between the nonprofit developer Jamboree Housing Corp. and the city of San Juan Capistrano. The successful opening of Salida del Sol represents a key achievement through partnership and illustrates a model for how government and nonprofit organizations can work together effectively.

Providing more than just housing, Salida del Sol includes a range of wraparound services coordinated by Jamboree’s community impact team. These services are designed to be delivered in a trauma-informed and harm-reduction environment, focusing on the well-being of residents. Assisting services include medication management, mental health counseling, life skills education, and social opportunities to help integrate residents into the community.

Organizations like Telecare Home First Central and the Orange County Health Care Agency’s Full Service Partnership are among those participating in providing essential services to residents, ensuring comprehensive support is available.

The total cost of developing Salida del Sol is approximately $30.75 million, with significant funding made available through various channels. Major contributions include $17.1 million from Bank of America in low-income housing tax credit equity, alongside $19.6 million designated for construction financing and $5.3 million in permanent financing. Additional financial support comes from the city of San Juan Capistrano, Orange County, and various housing finance entities.

To bring this vision to life, a number of partners were involved in the planning and execution, including Architecture Design Collaborative, Quality Design and Construction, Dahlin, EPTDESIGN, and Quality Management Group.
