News Summary

A new report reveals a significant increase in the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) within the construction and design industries in the U.S. Over 34% of professionals are currently utilizing AI, leading to considerable time savings and productivity gains. While awareness of AI’s capabilities is high, many professionals lack formal training. The report highlights various applications of AI in administrative tasks, sales, and project management, while also addressing concerns related to reliability and data security. The industry is poised for transformation as more professionals embrace AI’s potential benefits.

The Construction and Design Industry Embraces AI Technology

A recent report has unveiled that the construction and design industry is gradually adapting to artificial intelligence (AI), marking a significant shift towards modernization. According to the 2025 U.S. Houzz State of AI in Construction and Design Report, released by Houzz, a leading platform in the sector, more than one-third (34%) of professionals are currently utilizing AI in their businesses. This adaptation has prompted expectations of profound changes over the next few years, with two-thirds (66%) of the respondents believing that AI will transform the industry by 2030.

Survey Findings Highlight Industry Trends

The report is based on a comprehensive survey of over 700 professionals, both in construction and design. It reveals a broad awareness of AI, with nearly 70% of industry personnel acknowledging familiarity with the technology. Despite this awareness, there is a disparity between knowledge and application, as only 8% of respondents reported having no exposure to AI technologies.

Among those who are embracing AI, the benefits are already becoming apparent. On average, AI users save over 3 hours per week, translating to productivity improvements amounting to more than $108,000 annually for each business. The increase in efficiency represents a noticeable advantage, especially for larger firms, where AI adoption rates soar. In businesses with more than 10 employees, 32% of construction firms and 31% of design firms reported implementing AI, which jumps to 64% and 50%, respectively, in even larger organizations.

Popular Uses of AI in the Industry

The report highlights several ways professionals in construction and design are leveraging AI. The most common applications include:

  • Administrative tasks: 62% of all respondents, with 70% in design and 47% in construction.
  • Sales and marketing activities: 55% of users, including 59% in design and 37% in construction.
  • Planning and design tools: 42% overall, with 34% in design and 32% in construction.
  • Project and client management features: 33% of all professionals, attracting 42% of construction firms and just 14% of design firms.

Notably, a satisfactory experience is reported by 71% of AI users in both design and construction firms, and 58% claim that AI has had a moderate to significant influence on their workflow.

Concerns and Challenges in AI Adoption

Despite the promising data, concerns persist among industry professionals about the reliability and accuracy of AI outputs. Additionally, issues related to data security, privacy risks, and lacking technical expertise pose challenges to broader adoption. Alarmingly, a staggering 94% of designers and 92% of contractors have reported that they received no formal instruction on how to integrate AI into their work.

The report emphasizes the critical need for accessible methodologies that allow professionals to incorporate AI into established workflows effectively. There is a clear recognition manifesting within the report that, while AI offers substantial advantages, practical implementation strategies are essential for maximizing its benefits in construction and design.

Houzz Pro Introduces AI-Powered Features

In response to the growing demand for AI integration, Houzz Pro has developed a suite of AI-powered capabilities aimed at enhancing project management and design tasks. These features cover various functionalities such as estimates, takeoffs, messaging, and visualization tools. The introduction of these innovative solutions signifies a step toward making AI more accessible within the industry, ensuring that professionals can take full advantage of the opportunities presented by this technology.

As the construction and design landscape continues to evolve, the findings from this groundbreaking report suggest a pivotal moment for professionals willing to engage with AI.
